TOFEL

The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is a standardised academic English test primarily taken by students applying to universities in the United States. Additionally, some universities outside the United States accept the TOEFL as proof of English proficiency. The TOEFL consists of various tests, with the most popular ones being the TOEFL iBT and the TOEFL Essentials exam. Other tests in the TOEFL suite include TOEFL ITP (Institutional Testing Programme), TOEFL Junior, and TOEFL Primary, which are exclusively available to students through their respective schools. The TOEFL PBT (Paper Based Test or Paper-delivered test) was phased out in April 2021.

The TOEFL evaluates students across four sections: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The TOEFL iBT is a comprehensive and demanding exam lasting approximately three hours, designed to gauge students’ readiness to study in an English-speaking university. Many students dedicate three to six months for TOEFL preparation before taking the exam. On the other hand, the TOEFL Essentials exam is designed to be a more accessible and cost-effective English test, with a focus that is less academically oriented.
