IGCSE
International / General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is an English language-based secondary qualification that closely resembles the GCSE and is acknowledged in the United Kingdom as being equivalent to the GCSE for recognizing prior academic achievement. The IGCSE was developed by Cambridge Assessment International Education. Additionally, examination boards such as Edexcel, Learning Resource Network (LRN), and Oxford AQA offer their own versions of International GCSEs. Typically, students commence studying the syllabus at the start of Year 10 and sit for the examination at the end of Year 11. However, in some international schools, students may commence studying the syllabus in Year 9 and take the test at the end of Year 10.
The qualifications are subject-specific, implying that individuals receive an “IGCSE” qualification for each subject they undertake. Common “core” subjects for IGCSE candidates include a First Language, Second Language, Mathematics, and one or more subjects in the Sciences.

Exam Boards
Cambridge IGCSE
The Cambridge IGCSE examinations are administered during three sessions: February/March (limited to India), May/June, and October/November. The corresponding results are released in May, August, and January, respectively. These exams are designed and conducted by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE), a division of Cambridge Assessment, which also encompasses OCR, a GCSE examination board in the United Kingdom. Currently, there are more than 70 subjects available for IGCSE, and schools have the flexibility to offer them in various combinations according to their preferences.
Pearson Edexcel International GCSE
Previously, Edexcel International GCSE exams were held in June and January. However, starting from the academic year commencing in September 2023, the exams are scheduled for June and November. The final session for January exams will be in January 2023, covering the academic year from September 2022 to August 2023. The inaugural session for November exams will be in November 2023, encompassing the academic year from September 2023 to August 2024.
